The Village at Hickory Glen Apartment Homes offer affordable,
independent housing for adults with developmental disabilities.
The Village at Hickory Glen is a community of 15 unfurnished apartments for very low income persons with physical and developmental disabilities. The Village at Hickory Glen is being provided by a non-profit organization, Village at Hickory Glen Apartment Homes, Inc., under a 2009 national award from the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).
HCS may be available to any Texas resident not living in an institutional setting who:
Has an IQ of 69 or below or has an approved related condition with an IQ of 75 or below.
Has mild to severe deficits in adaptive behavior.
Is eligible for Medicaid benefits.
Is not enrolled in any other Medicaid waiver program.
Village at Hickory Glen is designed around the unique concept of individuals with disabilities living independently of management. The Village consists of fifteen apartment homes; 6-1 bedrooms, 6-2 bedrooms and 3- 3 bedrooms, containing both independent and common area living spaces.
The Village at Hickory Glen offers:
INDEPENDENT LIVING: Residents maintain a lifestyle independent of management staff for persons with disabilities. Each resident or family has a self-sufficient one, two or three bedroom unfurnished apartment with a small kitchen, appliances, living area, bedroom with ceiling fan and large walk through bathroom. Three bedroom apartments have their own washer and dryer hookups. There is a clubhouse with a kitchen, laundry facility with two washers and two dryers, manager’s office, common space with a TV and an outdoor patio.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING: The HUD 811 Supportive Housing for the Disabled Program requires that these living units be reserved for persons of; very low income (who earn no more than 50% AMI (Average Median Income) for the local area); who are developmentally disabled according to HUD definitions and guidelines; and over the age of 18.
CONVENIENT LOCATION: Village at Hickory Glen is located within a few miles of Kingwood Medical Center and numerous private doctors and clinics. It is ideally situated within easy walking distance to local shops, restaurants, drugstores and groceries.
The Village at Hickory Glen was the first residential community in the State of Texas to provide Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities.
