PEARLS & PINSTRIPES GALA

The 1950’s classic cocktail soiree, held at The Ballroom at Bayou Place, was filled with men in pinstripe suits and women in their best pearls, making the whole room shimmer. This year’s honoree was Mayor Pro-Tem Dave Martin for his avid and dedicated support of The Village for many years.

The Houston Astros playing in the World Series didn’t stop us from having a good time at the Pearls & Pinstripes Gala on Saturday, October 29th. The 1950’s classic cocktail soiree, held at The Ballroom at Bayou Place, was filled with men in pinstripe suits and women in their best pearls, making the whole room shimmer. Guests enjoyed classic cocktails made popular in the 1950s such as Old Fashioned, Highballs, and Tom Collins while bidding in the Silent Auction and swinging to the sounds of DJ Freddy B on the dance floor. Several TVs were set up throughout the room so guests could cheer on their hometown favorites and celebrate the 5-2 Game 2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

This year’s honoree was Mayor Pro-Tem Dave Martin for his avid and dedicated support of The Village for many years. We were excited to shine a light on his many career achievements and contributions to the community including his assistance to ensure Villagers receive critically important funding and resources from the City of Houston. Mayor Pro-Tem Martin was first elected to City Council representing District E in November 2012, and on January 2, 2020, was nominated as Mayor Pro-Tem by Mayor Sylvester Turner. Mayor Pro-Tem was honored with a touching tribute from Executive Director, Kristy Conrad and State Representative Dan Huberty. Martin and his wife of 39 years, Julie, have been longtime residents of Kingwood where they have raised their three children and been active parishioners of St. Martha’s Catholic Church.

Emcee for the event, once again, was KTRK-TV ABC13 Eyewitness News journalist Mayra Moreno. We were thrilled to have her back as Emcee as she dazzled attendees with her charm and sparkling personality. Attendees also enjoyed cowboy auctioneer Rusty Mertink and his “Wrangler” assistants who guided the Live Auction and Fund-a-Need in raising over $70,000. Contributions made during the gala combined with sponsorship and ticket sales raised more than $280,000 to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities! We thank you for your support!

We would like to thank the Gala Co-Chairs, Gala committee members, sponsors, auction donors, volunteers, and staff who made the Gala possible!
