2024 Gala Co-Chairs: Jay and Sally Mincks

The Village Centers’ annual Gala, themed “There’s No Place Like The Village,” whisked guests away on an unforgettable journey from Kingwood to the great Emerald City on Saturday, October 19th, at Hidden Pines. Presented by BestFit PEO and co-chaired by Jay and Sally Mincks, the evening united community members, supporters, and friends in celebration of the incredible work being done to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

The ballroom transformed into a glittering vision of emerald-green centerpieces, sparkling lights, and the iconic yellow brick road, setting a whimsical yet heartfelt tone for the night. Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner prepared by The Hometown Chef, which perfectly complemented the evening’s magical ambiance. Leading the program was emcee Tiffany Craig, owner of AmareVida, whose charm and warmth guided the night with grace and enthusiasm.

2024 Gala Honoree: Peter W. Mantell
This year’s honoree, Peter W. Mantell, a longtime champion of The Village Centers, was recognized for his steadfast commitment, profound impact, and years of dedicated board service. Known for his accomplished career in business development, Peter has also demonstrated an unfaltering dedication to community service and a deep commitment to improving the lives of those with special needs. His contributions have been instrumental in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where Villagers thrive.
The highlight of the evening was a heartwarming sign language performance led by Villager Cristina and her peers. Cristina, who has discovered a passion for teaching since joining the Day Program, inspired the group through weeks of practice. The moving performance brought tears to many eyes, offering a powerful reminder that there truly is "no place like The Village."
A sense of excitement and generosity filled the room as guests participated in a spirited live auction, guided by expert auctioneer Nick Hinze. Unique packages and experiences donated by generous supporters inspired enthusiastic bidding, all benefiting The Village’s essential programs and services. Silent auction items, beautifully displayed throughout the venue, also offered a wide range of treasures, ensuring there was something special for everyone.
One particularly joyful moment came with the raffle for a highly sought-after custom prize, adding an extra layer of anticipation and delight to the festivities. Throughout the night, laughter, camaraderie, and shared purpose were palpable as attendees rallied to make a difference in the lives of those served by The Village Centers.
The success of the evening would not have been possible without the tireless dedication and vision of the 2024 Gala Committee: Jeanette and Jeff Brown, Fran Fennie, Isa Gould, Stephen King, Pam McNair, and Michelle Zuniga. Their creativity and hard work brought the enchanting theme to life, creating a memorable experience for all who attended.
Special thanks also go to this year’s generous sponsors, including BestFit PEO, Insperity, Comcast, Greg and Marie Halvatzis, The MINT National Bank, Robert and Jayme Scarfo, Comerica, and many more.
In addition, heartfelt appreciation is extended to the incredible auction donors who contributed unique and exciting items, from experiences at Aggieland Safari to custom pieces from Republic Boot Co. and more. Their support was instrumental in raising vital funds for The Village Centers’ mission to create an inclusive, supportive community for adults with developmental disabilities.
As the final notes of the evening’s live music echoed and the dance floor cleared, the spirit of generosity and joy lingered long after the last guests departed. The Village Centers is deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the magic of this year’s gala, from volunteers and staff to sponsors and attendees. Together, their collective impact will continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
